Brian Scanlon
|
Brian Scanlon grew up in western Pennsylvania and began drawing as a young child. Inspired by his father, also an artist, his parents enrolled him in the junior arts program at the Butler Art Institute in Youngstown, Ohio. Scanlon’s adult career was in engineering and he was a practicing civil engineer in Los Angeles, California from the early 60’s to 2000.
In the 70’s Scanlon again
sharpened his drawing pencils and loaded his brushes with paint and
began a new chapter in his artistic endeavors. As primarily an oil
painter, plein air painting is something he loves. Favorite subjects
include the Los Angeles architecture and landscape, the California
desert and the Amish lands of western Pennsylvania. Since moving to
the Charleston area in 2003 he has been drawn to paint his unique
interpretation of the marshes, shrimp boats and the Charleston
docks. As a relative newcomer to the Charleston art scene he is
quickly gaining the reputation of being someone whose work should be
in your collection. Please click any of the paintings for a larger image |
